Running and Weight Loss Tip: Avoid Mindless Eating

Friday August 22, 2008
As runners, it's easy for us to not pay close attention to calories and portion sizes because we think, "I'll burn this off later, or tomorrow." This is one "healthy eating sin" that I know I commit frequently. I'll sometimes eat food just because it's there, even if I don't particularly like it!

To help get the weight loss benefits from running, it's important to think before you eat and avoid mindless eating. Try to keep healthy snacks close at hand so you reach for them (rather than cookies) when the "post-run hungries" hit. And keep your portion sizes in check so you don't feel the need to finish your plate even if you're full.

Do you have any strategies for avoiding mindless eating? If so, share them in the comments section!
