Too Busy to Run? Try These Ideas

Wednesday August 27, 2008
Lack of time is a popular excuse for missing regular runs. But when you do take the time to run, you may actually find that you'll have more energy and be more efficient at getting things done. Take these opportunities to get running:

Break up your runs. Stressing about getting your 10-mile long run done? Don't put pressure on yourself to get it all done at once. You can break it up in morning and evening runs. As long as you complete it during the same day (without sleeping in between), your body is getting the same basic benefits as it would from a long, continuous run.

Run in the morning. Morning runners are more consistent than those who run at other times of the day. When you run first thing in the morning, you won't have to worry about putting off your run because something else comes up during the day or you're too exhausted in the evening to run.

Socialize on the run. Instead of having lunch or coffee with a friend, catch up with buddies during a run. Set regular dates with running friends, so you'll be more motivated to run.
