Running in the Cold Weather: Love it or Hate it?

Saturday November 29, 2008
As I was driving to the gym this morning, I was impressed to see lots of runners who seemed to have no problem running in the 34 degree F weather. Since I'm 37 weeks pregnant, the treadmill is a safer option for me right now, so I have to admit I was a little envious of those outdoor runners.

For me, cold weather running can be exhilarating. Breathing in the cold, fresh air during a run is a welcome change when you're stuck inside for most of the winter. I'm willing to push through that first mile when I can't feel my extremities because I know the best is yet to come. It's not that long before I reach the point in my run that I'm completely warmed-up, and I feel like I could run forever. And there's nothing like the reward of a hot chocolate at the end of a wintery run.
