Headed out of town for the long weekend? Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, being on the road doesn't mean you have to put your running on hold. Here are some tips for keeping up your running habit while you're away:
Do research before you leave. Check out sites such as Map My Run or Run The Planet for running routes at your vacation locale. If you already have a few running routes in hand, you won't feel as apprehensive about running at your destination once you arrive.
Ask the hotel for running routes. You're not the first runner to stay at your hotel, so there's a good chance that they have suggestions for running routes that start at the hotel. Some hotels even offer guided runs for guests.
Run in the morning. If you get your run over with early in the day, it won't interfere with your sightseeing, relaxation, or work-related activities. And if you're traveling to a warm weather climate, getting out early means you won't be running in the heat of the day.
Stop in the local running shop. Running specialty shops are a great resource for out-of-town runners. Stop in and ask about suggested running routes. They may even offer a free group run that you can join.

So my question is, what do most runners do with their keys, id, cell phone, chapstick while they are running? I use a hip pack which constantly flops up and down, making me need to hold it in place. I’d love to find something smaller if anyone has any ideas . . . Thanks!
Hi Lisa,
I love my SPIbelt — it’s very small, but it’s stretchy so it can hold a lot. And it doesn’t bounce.
hi lisa. here what i do.
leave the phone, lip chap, id at home. u dont really needthis stuff.
stash your keys under a rock somewhere by your front door, works great:)
Lisa, Fortunately we live in a safe part of the country where I don’t have to worry about locking the house for training runs. When going to a race I stash an extra car key on the vehicle and then lock my main key inside. When I return, I retrieve the other key and I’m in.
