Definition: The Karvonen Method is a method for calculating your heart rate zones for heart rate monitor training. It is more accurate than most methods because it takes your resting heart rate into consideration. Here is the formula: Maximum Heart Rate - Resting Heart Rate = Heart Rate Reserve You then use the Heart Rate Reserve to calculate your target training rates as normal.
