Definition: A check is a mark (usually an X) on trail that denotes that trail can go any direction from that point. Oftentimes, checks are used at intersections. At a check it is common for hashers to split up and look for trail. When a hasher sees marks they should call for the rest of the hashers. Depending on the hash, they may call "on on" or they may call "on 1", "on 2" and so on counting to a few marks before yelling "on on". If someone asks "RU?" and you are at a "check", the correct answer is "checking".
