Although he's the youngest member of the Olympic triathlon team, Shoemaker's rise to the top has been impressive. He qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team by finishing as the top American at the 2007 ITU Beijing World Cup, beating former Olympians Hunter Kemper and Andy Potts to qualify for the first spot on the U.S Olympic Team.

The Road to Beijing:
Shoemaker was a long distance running star for Dartmouth, swam in high school, and added biking to his training during his junior year of college. When he graduated college in 2004, he became a full-time professional triathlete. As the top American finisher at the Beijing World Cup in September, Shoemaker automatically earned the first men's spot on the U.S. Olympic triathlon team.

Training Regimen:
Shoemaker estimates that he trains about 20 hours every week, including swimming nearly 20,000 yards, running 30 to 45 miles and biking 6 to 11 hours.
