How Much Weight I Lost

30lbs

What Motivated Me to Lose Weight

After the birth of my second child, I was about 25 lbs over my "comfortable" weight. I wanted to get back into a size 6 pant so I wouldn't have to buy all new clothes. I had steadily gained weight before getting pregnant this time, so it just crept up without me noticing. I've tried everything in the past, and as a nursing mother I had to keep my calories and energy up so strict dieting was out for me.

How I Lost Weight

I started the couch to 5k program from itunes in May 2010, weighing 153 lbs. After finishing that, I found that I really enjoyed running, and decided to do 6k, then 7, one thing led to another and now I run about 35-40K a week both in and out of the gym, and I weigh 129 lbs. Running is addictive, and I plan to do it for the rest of my life. Finishing a long run is a very rewarding experience.

Tips and Tricks

  • Keep going. No one can finish the mileage except for you. It hurts at first, but then you hit a certain point and you feel like you could go forever. Train your brain and your body will do whatever you tell it to.
  • Don't eat a ton of refined carbs, keep pasta and rice to 1/2 cup servings. Load up on veggies and protein. Save your carbs for before your runs.
  • Get a buddy to run with, or some great tunes on your iPod to keep you going.
