Do You Have a Running Blog?
Tuesday January 20, 2009
Seems like everyone these days has some sort of blog, whether it's related to their family, career, or hobbies. More and more runners are blogging to share their training and running experiences with the running community. I'd love to hear from runners who have blogs. Do you have a blog about running? If so, why did you start and what do you get out of it? Does it help you stay motivated? Post a message about your blogging experiences (with a link to your blog, of course) in the comments section.

I’ve only been blogging for a few months now, but it certainly acts as an additional motivator for me to keep running. I’m still a beginner runner so this helps keep things fun and interesting.

I have a running blog for almost 3 years now. In the first years I could find my motivation by posting question posts so experienced runners could give me advise. Now I see that I’m one of the experienced bloggers, going for his 1st marathon within 2 months. So yes, it still keeps me motivating, hopefully for years!
There is no doubt that it is purely for inspiration. The people that I’ve met through my blog have been so much inspiration to try longer distances or new methods. It’s definitely been something that has kept me inspired to keep running.
I am a couch-potato turned 5k attempter. I’ve been blogging my experience on marathonendeavor.blogspot.com
I’ve had my running blog for 3.5 years. I started it as a way to keep in touch with my family and friends. I’ve made several friends (Internet and local) through the blog. The running blogging community has been very supportive. Sometimes I feel the blog is a burden, but most of the time I like sharing my running–places, races & people that I meet.
I just started a running blog…and there isn’t much to it yet. I mostly started it for me, so I could keep track of how I was doing physically and emotionally throughout the journey. I also use it as a creative outlet and to keep me writing.

I have just started a blog mainly to keep track of mileage and keep myself motivated. I also hope others read it and offer suggestions for training etc. I find it interesting reading other peoples running blogs and find they are having the same issues as myself.
I have a running blog at which is about running, weight loss, triathlons (including Ironman) plus any other exercise related. I find it a good motivation as I have sent to friends and family to read plus anybody else who reads it.
I use my running blog to keep track of weather, races, workouts, and injuries. I use tags to organize my posts, so if I want to find out when the last time my knee hurt when I ran, or the last time I ran in the snow, it is extremely to do so.
*extremely easy to do so.
I started blogging last September firstly as a personal motivational tool to improve my running but also looking at various web tools and gadgets for runners and how they can enhance motivation in relation to both diet and exercise. I am currently testing Flickr, Twitter, DailyMile and FetchEveryone, and a Garmin watch.
I’m currently training to start running marathons for charity, but have been constantly plagued by knee problems. To keep myself motivated and to kick off the fundraising as soon as possible, I started my own blog called Will Run for Change.
Check it out!
I love my running blog! I’m working on the self hosting issue now and so the URL is wrong, but anyway, it’s sort of my version of a training journal.
I started my blog on a whim and because I was bored. Initially didn’t really blog much coz there wasn’t really any point of focus in my blog postings. Then one day I decided I was gonna ramble about my highs and lows of running and other stuff related to my running on my blog. So now my blog is technically, a running blog! Mostly I continue to blog to update my friends about my progress or lack of it in my training, or to update them about the upcoming races I was going to enter.
I have a blog (Troy Bear)which periodically has running-related items like information on upcoming marathons, new shoes, etc. I started it thinking I would post my training regimen for the Portland Marathon in early October. But, unfortunately, non-runners tell me that they find these types of blogs to be boring. So I doubt that I’ll convert to a solely running-news/training blog.
My blog address is http://troybear.blogspot.com .
I’ve been keeping a running blog for three years now, the blog keeps me motivated and accountable. My blog is: http://vegasrunner.blogspot.com/
I started a running-blog with 4 other moms when our friend’s daughter was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease. There is no cure or funding for research, so we are running for a cure and blogging about it.
Except for one of us, we all started out as complete non-runners, and non-athletes, but we’d like to inspire others to run, since all of us are getting so much out of this experience.
We were able to raise 16K for our first half-marathon (last month in Carlsbad), and are currently training for the next one.
I started my running blog when I began training for the London Marathon, as an add on to my normal blog.It keeps me focussed and acts as a journal so I can see my progress.I am never going to be a great runner, but I am determined!!
I started my blog to help keep me motivated and to connect with other runners. I’ve made some great internet friends through my blog and they’ve inspired me to run my first marathon this year. http://lastplacerunner.blogspot.com
It’s new, but it’s coming together.
I ran before I got pregnant now I am trying to stay healthy so I can start up again when the baby gets here
Running is fun, and when I write about running I relive the fun.

I started a Running Blog about 5 months ago to document my trials and experiments with training – to see what I learn and what helps/doesn’t help with everything. I’m a Nutritionist so I post about “foodie” things! I love it – and there’s a Great community of “running bloggers” to connect with!
I started blogging about running after my running partner did – we mostly just enjoyed blogging about our shared experiances and the different perspectives we had on everything from why people do or don’t wave, what causes injuries, to what shoes work.
I started my blog about 16 months ago for the newspaper that I work for. The health editor had been after me for a while to start it since we have a large running and fitness community. Once I started writing I found it to be a lot of run. I love sharing my experiences and hope it helps to motivate others to get fit. I try to vary the blog with interviews with other runners, healthful topics and a Q&A with a running coach. The blog is called FITchat.
My URL didn’t make it into my comment so here it is:

Hi Susan,
Thanks for your post. Your blog is great! Just wanted to let you know that your name is hyperlinked to your blog — the system actually links it from there automatically when you enter your url. I know it’s not obvious — I didn’t realize it at first either!
Hi, first time here. Id just like to say its the first web page iv seen regarding jogging/running and it really has made a big difference instantly. Such superb advice and tips..

My blog is one of the things that keeps me going. I created Couch to 5K podcasts to keep others going. Check it out! http://runningintoshape.com/5k-training-downloads
I’m a novice runner living in Dublin, Ireland. I’m not very good at running – but I keep going mainly just to annoy myself I think. I just started my blog this week (!) so if anyone has time to check it out, I’d be deilghted. Admittedly, I do veer off topic a bit, but I do update regularly!
Cool site, love the info.
I’ve just started running – I’m finding blogging about it really keeps me motivated!
Great articles & Nice a site….
Just started a running blog and am hoping to connect with other runners. Happy running!!
My first blog was today! I’m RAD and have not found a lot of runners like me. I have hoshimoto’s, reynaulds, pernicious anemia. I have been to runners forums and found no one with my diseases. I just finished my first marathon and I look forward to my next. I think keeping a blog/journal will help to keep me focused.
