Minidiscs and the World of Running

For another updated musical accessory (though less popular), there is the minidisc player.

Pros

  • Easy to use (works just like a CD player)
  • Can buy blank discs (fairly inexpensive) and record from CDs, MP3s, or Internet radio to make your own play list
  • Can make many small discs with hours of playback so you can pick one based on your mood
  • Small and easy to transport
  • Made with runners in mind (so there's little to no skipping)
  • Better sound quality than CD or tape players
  • Easy to control music (skip, repeat, etc)

Cons

  • Cost much more than most CD or tape players (about $100, not including discs or the equipment to record onto discs)
  • Can not buy minidiscs with music already on them
  • Not much competition in this market, so less likely to see more offerings going forward
