What Is a Cooldown?

By

Updated January 25, 2014

Definition: The cooldown is a period of easy running or walking at the end of a harder run or workout. The cooldown keeps the blood flowing throughout the body. Stopping suddenly can cause light-headedness because your heart rate and blood pressure drop rapidly, so winding down slowly allows them to fall gradually.
